but he forgot to mention magnetic field variation of the earth usually shown on a good map and compass deviation as compasses are not perfect. Nice try but the formula is TVMDC. True minus variation equals magnetic minus deviation equals compass. Basic navigation.

i knew sleeping in the level 7 suits was doable, didn't realize it could go down to negative 20. although it seems awfully uncomfortable, waking up in the middle of the night to do squats because it's so chilly.

If you are in handcuffs I doubt you your captors will let you keep your knife. Also, if your cuffed hands are behind you, how would you get to a pocket to retrieve the key or knife that is most likely in a front pocket. (And how would you have a key?). To make it even harder, the hands are locked back to back almost negating the function of the fingers on both hands to work together. Try it. The best way is to behave yourself and stay out of trouble. Then you don’t need to worry about being cuffed. How many of us out there have the expertise to identify the type of cuffs and how to escape from them??

Another great one Andrew, although I'm a subscriber must have missed this one. I managed to conceal a flexible wire saw blade (the diamond type) in the centre portion of 550 paracord as boot laces. If you thread this through your boots you can still tie them up at the top with the wire inside at the bottom section. Empty out two medicine capsules. Fill one with potassium permanganate and one sugar. They will fit at the top ends of paracord boot laces and put a couple of stitchings to keep in place. They look just like the end of boot laces when threaded Sectionsof plastic straws clamped at one end, sealed with a lighter and add glycerin with a syringe and sealed after to mix with permanganate can be used the same way to mix and make fire. I've also hidden two coping saw/tile saw blades inside the trouser hem of combat pants, just don't draw the ties up as much. Unpick the clothing label on the inside of a shirt, T shirt or pants and a ceramic razor blade can usually be inserted between the garments and size label before sewing up again. The blade can be protected using a piece of kevlar marine sail repair tape. Obviously will pass metal detection. Plastic pocket pouches used for laminating id cards etc are cheap. You can layer them up and heat with a hot air gun to make different thicknesses of plastic shims for opening doors. You can cut into strips and conceal in the wasteband of pants. They are remarkably strong and flexible. Again no metal. Pop out a dog tag from a rubber silencer, sharpen one or more edges on the edges and re insert into rubber. Although not a stainless steel knife grade you can still get a very sharp edge on. You most likely know this but thought I'd mention a few tricks I've taught myself. Regards Cliff, UK.

In reference to your "magnet(s) in the paracord end" idea, ~5:15 mark, and credit to John Hudson (rank?), British RAF SERE instructor lead, as seen on one episode of the Discovery channel's show Survive That! (aka 'Dude, You're Screwed', in the US), take your small, narrow, ferro rod and tuck a short piece into the other end of the paracord lace, after removal of the inner threads for a good, tight fit, and heat-seal that end to keep it secure. It's good but I don't understand why you didn't add in a disposable poncho as cover, takes up no space and would still fit in there.

You can tell that zipper has been tampered with by the wrinkle he left at the end of the zipper. Which ruined that zipper and the luggage. Take pictures of those parts of your zipper if you hope to make any arguements about theft.

I think I saw or heard this from a military aviation presentation many years ago. In an emergency, get out fast, as fast as you can. That means that maybe all you'll have with you is what you are wearing and what's in your pockets at the time. So a mini-chest rig and survival belt may be potentially life-saving. Good luck and expect and prepare for the worst.
